The Merseyside derby is the highlight of another exciting set of Premier League fixtures. Let’s take a look in this week’s Premier League preview.
Everton haven’t beaten their city rivals in over ten years, but this Saturday could be their best chance in a long time. Liverpool have lost their last three home games and are experiencing their worst run of form since Jurgen Klopp became manager. On the flip side, the Toffees have picked up ten points from their last four away games and despite last week’s defeat to Fulham, will be confident of gaining at least a point.
Leaders Manchester City have a tricky trip to the Emirates to face Arsenal. City have won an incredible 16 games in a row and already have one hand on the Premier League trophy. When the two sides met recently in the League Cup, City ran out comfortable 1-4 winners. However, Arsenal have been performing better in recent weeks and looked in top form during their 4-2 win over Leeds last time out.
Manchester United will be hoping that City slip up, but their main priority is gaining three points at home to struggling Newcastle United. After a promising run of form, United’s title hopes are starting to fizzle out. They need to be virtually perfect from now to have any hope of catching City. The Magpies have lost six of their last seven away games in the Premier League and find themselves just one place above the relegation zone.
Third placed Leicester City have a crucial game at Villa Park. The Foxes are enjoying a superb season and victory here would solidify their hopes of a top four finish. Aston Villa still have dreams of gatecrashing the top four. They sit six points behind fourth place Chelsea, but have two games in hand.
There’s a huge London derby at the London Stadium on Sunday. Fifth placed West Ham United are right in the mix for a European place, whilst Tottenham Hotspur are seeing their own European hopes fade on the back of a terrible run of form. Jose Mourinho’s side have lost four of their last five Premier League games and have fallen to ninth in the table.
It wouldn’t be a Premier League preview, without mentioning that West Brom face a must win fixture. This week they travel to Burnley, knowing that defeat would leave them at least 12 points from safety with only 13 games remaining.
The two other sides in the relegation zone face each other at Craven Cottage. Bottom side Sheffield United seem doomed to a return to the Championship, but 18th placed Fulham could still engineer a great escape. Victory here would take them to within four points of Newcastle in 17th.
The other two fixtures see Wolves entertain Leeds United on Friday evening, whilst Brighton host Crystal Palace on Monday night.
It’s sure to be an exciting weekend of action, so make sure you don’t miss it and we’ll be back next week with another Premier League Preview.
