There are two top five encounters in another exciting looking set of Premier League fixtures. Let’s take a look in our Premier League preview.
Manchester City can make it an astonishing 19 wins in a row with victory over West Ham in the Saturday lunchtime fixture. Perhap the most remarkable aspect of City’s run has been their rock solid defence, which has kept 15 clean sheets in the Premier League this season. They face a tough test against West Ham though, the Hammers are enjoying their best ever Premier League season. Indeed, this is the first time in 36 years that they’ve occupied a top four position after 25 games.
Second place Manchester United travel to fifth place Chelsea on Sunday afternoon. The Blues are undefeated under Thomas Tuchel, a run that has thrust them right back into Champions League contention. Meanwhile, United’s victory over Newcastle was just their second in six games. As usual, they will be heavily reliant on Bruno Fernandes. The midfielder is one of only three players in Europe to have contributed at least ten goals and ten assists this season.
Leicester City can cement their place in the top four with victory over mid table Arsenal. The Foxes have established a six point cushion over Chelsea in fifth and are in excellent form. Arsenal are mired in mid table and the Europa League remains their best chance of securing European football next season.
At the other end of the table, both West Brom and Sheffield United are approaching ‘must win’ territory if they are to have any chance of avoiding a return to the Championship. The Baggies host Brighton at the Hawthorns, Sam Allardyce’s side have drawn their last two games, but their improved performances need to translate into wins quickly. They will have their work cut out against a Seagulls side who have picked up seven points from their last three away games.
Sheffield United host Liverpool on Sunday evening, and they will fancy their chances of grabbing at least a point. Liverpool are in free fall at present, having lost four consecutive league games and fallen out of title contention. The Blades are 14 points from safety and have only kept one clean sheet all season. They need a victory here to give them any semblance of a chance of survival.
The other side in the bottom three are Fulham. They travel to Crystal Palace knowing victory could put them level on points with Newcastle. The Cottagers are enjoying a fine run of form and have picked up two wins and a draw in their last three fixtures.
Newcastle play Wolves on Saturday evening, hoping to put some daylight between themselves and the bottom three. The Magpies have lost eight of their last ten games and now sit just three points outside of the drop zone.
Finally in this week’s Premier League preview, there are midtable encounters between Leeds & Aston Villa and Tottenham & Burnley.
It promises to be a thrilling week of Premier League games, so sit back, enjoy the action and we’ll be back next week with another Premier League preview.
