The Indian Premier League gets underway this Friday and it’s sure to be a blockbuster edition of the world’s number one T20 league. Here are our top free cricket betting tips for the event:
Winner: Rajasthan Royals 9
The IPL is always an open competition and every squad has their fair share of superstars. This makes it very tough to pick a winner, meaning there’s plenty of value to be found in the market.
Mumbai Indians are favourites at and seem likely to go close with the likes of Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and the Pandya brothers heading the home based contingent. Their overseas stars like Adam Milne, Kieron Pollard and Quinton de Kock add even more star power, but odds of 3.5 are very short in such an open tournament.
Instead, we think last year’s bottom placed Rajasthan Royals can go all the way. They’ve got arguably the best collection of overseas players in the league, including Ben Stokes, David Miller, Jos Buttler, Mustifizur Rahman, Liam Livingstone and Jofra Archer. That gives them elite top and middle order talent, as well as some lethal fast bowling options. The side is captained by wicketkeeper Sanju Samson and whilst they lack in homegrown star power, they do have some very talented players who are capable of springing a few surprises. 9 looks an excellent price on the Royals going from last to first this season.
Top run scorer: Ishan Kishan 17
Kishan is a seriously destructive batter. His 56 off 32 balls against England last month was an incredible introduction to international T20. In the 2020 IPL he scored an impressive 516 runs at an average of almost 58. He looks likely to be given the opener’s role for the Mumbai Indians and has a fantastic platform to showcase his talent.
If you’re looking for each way value, Johnny Bairstow (17), Rishabh Pant (14) and Shubnam Gill (21) are worth a look.
Top wicket taker: Lungi Ngidi 21
Ngidi has the best strike rate in T20 over the last two years. So it’s somewhat surprising he’s as high as 21 to be the top wicket taker. The South African has averaged a wicket every 11.5 balls in that period, if he can achieve anything near that success rate, he’s got a superb chance of topping the wicket taking columns. He does miss the first game due to quarantine, but given the IPL’s long format that is no reason to overlook him.
We also like the look of Mohammed Siraj at 19 and Anrich Nortje at 14. Despite the perceived dominance of spin bowling in T20, only one spinner has topped the charts in the last five seasons, so we’d recommend sticking to pace bowlers in this market.
It promises to be a fantastic IPL tournament. Enjoy the action and look out for more free cricket betting tips in the next few weeks.
